TELL CONGRESS: DO MORE FOR AMERICAN WRONGFUL DETAINEES IN VENEZUELA
It’s Hostage Week, and the families of the American wrongful detainees held in Venezuela are calling on Congress to do more to bring their loved ones home. They’re meeting with dozens of Senators and Representatives this week with the following asks:
Urge President Trump and key administration officials to make the safe return of our loved ones a top priority. Wrongful detentions are not a political issue — they’re a human issue. We are pleading for your voice, your influence, and your compassion in our fight to bring our loved ones home.
Write a joint letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio asking for a) transparency on the strategy to bring the American detainees home and b) immediate action on the strategy, including sending US officials to Venezuela to conduct wellness checks on our loved ones.
Constantly remind the media and the public that ten Americans remain detained in Venezuela by posting about them on your social media accounts and talking about them in the press. For information and resources, go to BringOurFamiliesHome.com.
Engage with the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs (SPEHA) at the State Department for regular classified updates and accountability. The SPEHA has already designated our loved ones as wrongfully detained, which is a critical first step toward bringing them home, but additional support and pressure from Congress are essential to get the job done.
Provide publicity and leverage by going on the record with a joint resolution recognizing the detention of our loved ones, framing it as a humanitarian cause, and demanding that urgent action be taken.
Americans don’t leave Americans behind. Add your name if you agree Congress should do more for the American wrongful detainees currently behind held in Venezuela for political leverage. Let Congress know it’s not just the families of wrongful detainees asking, it’s the thousands of Americans Voters who’ve joines Team Global Reach.
